Briefs: Marriott supports immigrant cause

Radisson Collection debuts in Australia: Radisson Hotel Group has signed the Asia Pacific region’s inaugural Radisson Collection hotel to be located in Australia’s Blue Mountains. Scheduled to open in 2023, the 60-key Imperial Hotel, A Radisson Collection Hotel will mark the rebirth of one of Australia’s first “tourist hotels,” which opened in 1878 and has hosted Prime Ministers and royalty, including King George V and George VI. The original Imperial Hotel building will be restored and a collection of chalets will be built in the property’s 1.85-acre grounds.

Second Singapore Raffles: A second Raffles hotel is set to open in Singapore in 2022 as Accor, in partnership with property developer Royal Group, announced Tuesday that the new Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa Singapore will be built as an all-villa resort with 61 villas. It will be build adjacent to Royal Group’s Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort & Spa.

Crescent caps new fund: Crescent Real Estate, Fort Worth, Texas, closed a second investment fund to acquire, develop and operate real estate assets. The fund, GP Invitation Fund II, closed on April 1 after a private, invitation-only campaign raised US$250 million from investors. Crescent expects the fund to have in excess of US$4 billion in investment capacity by partnering with long-standing, high net-worth and institutional clients.  Notable Fund II assets include the 473-room Westin Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas.

Marriott supports Immigration Equality: Marriott International has donated US$100,000 to Immigration Equality to support its work on behalf of LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants. It marks the largest corporate contribution in the organization’s 15-year history. The donation will expand their work providing free legal services to LGBTQ asylum seekers fleeing persecution in their countries of origin. The donation will also further enable Immigration Equality to advocate and litigate on behalf of LGBTQ immigrants before Congress and the courts. Marriott’s first collaborated with Immigration Equality in 2012 to support fair treatment for LGBTQ individuals and families under U.S. immigration policies. In 2018, it formalized its partnership with Immigration Equality, as part of the company’s priority to “welcome all and advance human rights”, through investing in the organization’s efforts to provide free legal services and advocacy globally for LGBTQ and HIV-positive immigrants.

Union supports de Blasio: Hotel Workers For Stronger Communities (HWSC), the political arm of the powerful New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council (HTC), will kick off their paid media program, in support of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s bid for U.S. president, with the debut of its first national television ad to air on the night of the first Democratic Presidential debate. HWSC expects to spend up to US$1 million in support of de Blasio, through a series of TV and social and digital media ad placements, reaching Democratic voters in the early primary states of South Carolina, New Hampshire and Iowa.

MCR buys in Albuquerque: MCR, New York City, has acquired the 110-room Residence Inn by Marriott Albuquerque Airport. Just 5 miles southeast of downtown, the hotel is MCR’s first property in the state of New Mexico. The acquisition price was not disclosed.
