People on the move: Outrigger, Interstate, Rosewood

NewcrestImage launched a nationwide expansion program of US$2 billion in growth by adding two veteran lodging and finance executives to its C-suite. David Perel and Caroline Lerner Perel joined the company as chief investment officer and chief development officer, respectively, reporting to Mehul Patel, chairman and CEO. The Perels come to the company from Civitas Capital Group, where David Perel was managing director and head of lodging investments, and Caroline Lerner Perel was a managing director on the lodging team. The Perels joined Civitas in 2013 when Civitas bought their company, Juno Development.

At NewcrestImage, David Perel’s primary responsibility is raising and investing US$250 million in equity with both institutional and noninstitutional sources for investment within the lodging sector. Caroline Lerner Perel’s main role is aggressively evaluating and recommending appropriate investment opportunities, specifically through acquisition of existing properties, new-build projects and adaptive re-use of historic buildings.

Thompson D.C., opening later this year in Washington, D.C.’s The Yards waterfront development, named Sherry Abedi general manager and Kelly McCourt director of sales and marketing. Abedi most recently was general manager of the Quirk Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. McCourt led sales and marketing for The Darcy Washington, D.C.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts appointed Andrew Arthurs chief information officer. Arthurs most recently was chief information officer at Two Roads Hospitality and Lowe, where he oversaw the integration of Destination Hotels and Commune Hotels and Resorts, bringing approximately 100 hotels and resorts under management.

The Abbey Inn & Spa in Peekskill, New York, named Gilbert Baeriswil general manager, Olivia Calcagnini director of sales and marketing, John Paidas executive chef and Eileen Whitney director of catering, wedding and event specialists. Baeriswil joined from Mahopac Golf & Beach Club in Mahopac, New York, where he was general manager. Calcagnini arrived at The Abbey Inn from Convene, a New York City-based network of meeting, event and conference venues, where she was an opening account manager. Paidas departed The Sagamore Pendry in Baltimore, where he was executive chef, and Whitney left Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury, Connecticut, where she was director of catering, wedding and event specialist.

Associated Luxury Hotels International appointed Ashly Balding chief strategy officer. A 16-year company veteran, Balding most recently was executive vice president, providing leadership, coaching and business development expertise.

Woodstock Inn & Resort in Woodstock, Vermont, appointed Ryan Beaudoin chef of Kelly Way Gardens and Jason Schmidtke special events chef. Beaudoin spent a year as food forager and director of culinary education at Ocean House in Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Schmidtke had been a sous chef at Leon’s Fine Poultry and Oysters in Charleston, South Carolina.

New York Hilton Midtown in New York City promoted Kellie Cahill from director of sales and marketing to commercial director, a newly created position for the hotel.

Kimpton Saint George in Toronto, Canada, named Frank Campo director of sales and marketing. Campo has worked in various director and managerial roles for The Sutton Place Hotel Toronto, Trump International Hotel and Tower Toronto, and Thompson Hotel Toronto.

Eike Clausen, former hotel manager of Kempinski Hotel Aqaba Red Sea in Aqaba, Jordan, was promoted to general manager.

Noble House Hotels & Resorts named Scott Colee chief marketing and creative officer; Sean Mullen president of sales, revenue management and acquisitions; Don Dennis president of operations; and Marco Perry vice president, regional managing director for the West Coast. Colee has been with the company for 12 years as a member of the board of directors and chief creative officer. Mullen was the company’s president of acquisitions, while Dennis most recently was Noble House Hotels & Resorts’ vice president, regional managing director for the West Coast. Perry formerly was managing director for LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort in Naples, Florida.

Kasa Hotel Collection promoted Veronika Dora Kecskes to general manager of Kasa Hotel Riviera Maya in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. She was operations manager at Kasa Hotel Collection’s first hotel in Mexico, Hotel Kasa Parota Tulum in Aldea Zama.

L’Auberge de Sedona, A Destination Hotel in Sedona, Arizona, named Anthony Duggan general manager. He most recently general manager of The Westin Washington, D.C., City Center. The property also appointed Christi Windle director of sales and Ardi Dulaku beverage manager. Windle’s previous roles include director of sales and marketing at Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder and director of sales and marketing at Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza, both in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A native of Kosovo, Dulaku has worked at resorts and hospitality outlets including Amara Resort and Spa, and Vacation Resorts International in Sedona.

Matthew Ellis is assistant manager at Le Méridien Denver Downtown + AC Hotel Denver Downtown, focusing on the Denver properties’ food and beverage operations and overseeing four F&B outlets. Ellis comes to the property from Denver’s Park Burger Group.

Riverhouse on the Deschutes in Bend, Oregon, named Jeff Guillory director of sales and marketing. Guillory has led the sales and marketing teams at Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, The Westin Monache Resort in Mammoth Lakes, California, InterContinental Hotel in Miami, and more.

Sascha Hemmann is managing director of Rosewood Bermuda in Tucker’s Point, Bermuda. He had been general manager of Nanuku Auberge Resort in Viti Levu, Fiji.

Kumu Kapono Kamaunu is cultural adviser for Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea, Hawaii, leading cultural programming for both guests and colleagues. Kamaunu and his wife own Na Kani O Hula, where they create, sell and host workshops teaching others to make hula implements. He also works with Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Voyaging Society as a cultural practitioner.

Yotel Boston appointed Michael Letterman food and beverage director. He most recently opened and managed the Fairmont Copley Plaza’s restaurant, Oak Long Bar + Kitchen, also in Boston.

Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain in Qing Cheng Mountain, China, appointed Lily Liu resort manager. Liu’s experience includes leading the Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts southwest regional sales office in Chengdu, China, for five years.

Paige Lund is general manager of JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Arizona. Prior to this appointment, Lund was general manager of the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel in Phoenix.

Joel Paige is chief operating officer of Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. Paige, who has close relationships with the PGA Tour and PGA of America, along with key title sponsors, has served as managing director for Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Doral, Florida, and PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Central Station, a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel in Memphis, Tennessee, appointed Jeremy Sadler general manager and Helen Nelson director of sales and marketing. Sadler previously was opening general manager for Tulsa Club, a Curio Collection by Hilton property in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Nelson was director of sales and marketing at Hu Hotel Memphis.

Linthwaite House, Leeu Collection’s hotel in Bowness-on-Windermere, England, announced Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan will take over its restaurant in October, opening Henrock. Head chef Brian Limoges will run Henrock’s kitchen team. He joined from San Francisco, where he worked in restaurants including Quince, Birdsong and Atelier Crenn. Nicolas Perdrier will oversee food and beverage operations at Linthwaite. Perdrier previously worked for Rogan as assistant manager at L’Enclume in Grange-over-Sands, England.

Henry Schwartz is vice president and chief information officer of Outrigger Hospitality Group. Schwartz joins from KSL Resorts, where he was vice president of information technology. He helped plan projects in conjunction with Outrigger’s IT team over the past two years.

The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo, in Tokyo, Japan, welcomed Kevin Song as executive assistant manager, rooms. Song has held director of rooms positions for The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai International Financial Center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka, in Osaka, Japan.

Chryssaldo Thomas is general manager of Ohana Waikiki East by Outrigger in Honolulu. A member of the Outrigger team since 2017, Thomas previously was resort manager at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort, also in Honolulu.

Craig Tooker is director of food and beverage at The Gabriel Miami Hotel, a Curio Collection by Hilton property in Miami. He had been executive chef/director of food and beverage at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa in Miami Beach, Florida.

Grace Bay Resorts promoted Angella Tyson to director of reservations for the Turks and Caicos-based luxury hotel brand. Tyson has been with the brand for nearly 14 years and has more than 25 years of managerial experience in the tourism industry.

The Leading Hotels of the World appointed Chris Walker senior vice president, global sales, based in the company’s New York City headquarters. Walker’s appointment is a return to Leading Hotels, where he previously spent four years as senior vice president, sales, Americas.

The Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon’s Pearl District named Stephanie Wood group sales manager and Tracy Ann St. Martin conference service manager. Wood previously held sales management positions at The Oregon Golf Club in West Linn, Oregon, Portland City Grill in Portland, and more. St. Martin had been catering sales manager at Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Washington Square in Tigard, Oregon.

Wharf Hotels in Hong Kong appointed Balwin Yeung group director of global sales, Ben Choi group director rooms, and Louis Ver group director e-commerce. Yeung most recently was director of sales and marketing, Hong Kong and South China, at Royal Caribbean International. Choi had been group director of hotels and customer engagement with Plaza Premium Group, while Ver most recently was director of revenue and e-commerce for Swissôtel Nankai Osaka in Osaka, Japan, also serving Accor Hotels in Japan and Hong Kong in revenue and distribution roles. 

Diana Youngblood is director of finance for the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center, a Benchmark Resorts & Hotels property in Gainesville, Florida. This marks a promotion from Youngblood’s previous role as task force controller, traveling to numerous hotels and resorts to support property finance and accounting teams.
