W breaks new ground in Aspen

Opened at the end of August 2019, the W Aspen & The Sky Residences at W Aspen is the first ground-up new build resort project in Aspen, Colorado, in decades. There is a high barrier to enter the market, but Marriott International, owner Northridge Capital, Sarpa Development and the city of Aspen have delivered the first Mountain W Escape in North America situated at a ski-in/ski-out location at the base of Aspen Mountain.

The Wet Deck is a year-round public rooftop with a heated pool, hot tub, fire pits, cabanas, full bar, dance floor and DJ booth.

Designed around the brand’s passion points – design, music, fashion and fuel (fitness) – the W Aspen management tam expects to be run rates year-round comparable to its comp set, which includes The Little Nell, The St. Regis Aspen, Hotel Jerome, Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch, The St. Regis Deer Valley, Montage Deer Valley and the Four Seasons Jackson Hole.

Architecture Roland & Broughton brought to life an 88-room modern-day chalet and all of the elements that provide a sense of place with the modern touches that represent the W brand. Nemaworkshop developed the interiors with highlights ranging from the Mine Shaft Welcome area featuring the Silver nugget inspired DJ Booth, to a rooftop Wet Deck with 360 degrees of Aspen, as well as interior public space designed for hanging out. The Sky Residences at W Aspen feature 11 shared ownership residences, sold in 1/10th interests.

The Bosphorus Junior Suite at Six Senses Kocatas Mansions, Istanbul
The Bosphorus Junior Suite at Six Senses Kocatas Mansions, Istanbul

History meets hospitality in Istanbul: Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas and development partner Alfardan Group have restored two Ottoman-era mansions in Istanbul. Six Senses Kocatas Mansions, which also incorporates next-door Sait Pasa Mansion, is located in the Sariyer district of Istanbul’s European side, famous for its “Pearls of Bosphorus” waterfront properties. The urban resort recreates historic architectural features and artifacts from the site’s former 19th century Kocatas Mansions, which were devastated in a fire years ago, paying homage to its original footprint.

The site enjoys far-reaching views over the Bosphorus as it begins its last curve towards the Black Sea. The 45 guest rooms and suites are divided between the two stately three-level heritage mansions, together with lounges, banqueting and function rooms and a gallery. Inspired by the city’s ability to embrace its contradictions – whether east and west, ancient and modern, or mystical and earthly – the interior design blends traditional local flavors with contemporary Six Senses signature touches.
