SPOKANE, WASHINGTON — Red Lion Hotels Corp. announced Thursday that Jon Eliassen, the lead independent director on the company's board of directors, has been appointed interim president and chief executive officer, effective immediately.
Eliassen replaces Anupam Narayan, whose employment ended on Wednesday. No reason was given for Narayan's departure, and it is unclear whether he resigned or was forced out.
Narayan took over as Red Lion CEO in February 2008, replacing former CEO Arthur Coffey, who retired. Narayan was formerly the company's chief financial officer.
Eliassen served for 16 years as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Avista Corp. prior to retiring in 2003. From 2003 to 2007, he served as president and CEO of the Spokane (Washington) Area Economic Development Council. He has been a Red Lion director since 2003.
