Marriott Opens Hotel In Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL Marriott International, Washington, D.C. will open a 230-plus room hotel in Copacabana Beach in 2000. The Rio de Janeiro Marriott will be the first newly built hotel in Rio de Janeiro in 19 years and the second Marriott International lodging portfolio property in Brazil. Over the next 24 months, Marriott expects to open five properties in South America.

Among amenities planned for the hotel are 17 suites, an executive level and lounge, outdoor swimming pool, a health club, business center, restaurant and lobby bar. For conferences and social events the hotel will offer 3,940 sq.ft. (366 sq.m) of meeting space including a 1,862 (173 sq.m) ballroom and six additional meeting rooms.

Starwood Plans Westin Hotel For Times Square

NEW YORKStarwood Hotels & Resorts, Phoenix, announced plans to develop a 860-room luxury hotel, the Westin New York at Times Square.

Scheduled to open in early 2002, the US$300 million hotel will be located adjacent to E Walk, a 200,000 sq.ft. (18,581 sq.m) entertainment, retail and restaurant complex, also being developed, and owned, by affiliates of Tishman Realty & Construction Inc., New York.

Guestroom amenities include dual-line telephones with data port and voice mail, in-room safe, cable television, iron and ironing board, hairdryer and coffee maker. Other amenities include meeting space, a business center, spa and complete fitness center.

Ritz-Carlton's 5th Hotel In Caribbean

GRAND CAYMANSituated on 144 acres (58 ha), extending from Seven Mile Beach to the North Sound, the 366-room Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, will offer guests 5 acres (2 ha) of white-sand beachfront, two outdoor pools, spa and fitness center and a variety of watersports activities.

The English-colonial architecture and interior design of the resort will include white roofs and ivory buildings. Arched doorways and high ceilings will capture panoramic views of the ocean. The interior designer is Hirsch Bedner, Atlanta.

MRG International, Costa Rica, will develop and own the resort, and an integrated 72-room condominium facility. Both the resort and the condominiums will be managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Atlanta, Georgia.

First Four Seasons Hotel In Arizona

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Toronto, Canada, plans to open its first property in Arizona, the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North in late 1999.

The resort's 210-rooms and suites will be arranged in southwestern casitas, offering magnificent desert views. All rooms will feature fireplaces, full walk-in closets, air-conditioning, variable-speed ceiling fans, television and VCR and two-line telephones.

For dining, guests will have the option of two restaurants plus a pool bar and grill, lobby lounge and a private dining room for 12. Other amenities include a spa, meeting rooms and ballroom.
