Hilton Plans Second Hotel In Nigeria

LAGOS, NIGERIA Development of the AIC Hilton Lagos Airport Hotel marks
the second Hilton Hotel to open in Nigeria. The 300-room AIC Hilton
Lagos Airport will be developed on the grounds of Murtala Muhammed International
Airport, announced Hilton International, Watford, Herts, England. The
US$60 million, 5-star hotel will be owned by AIC Limited, under a management
and operations agreement with Hilton International, a subsidiary of
Hilton Group plc.
The hotel will feature a main, domed lobby area with dedicated airline
and travel check-in counters. Conference and banquet facilities will
include a ballroom and meeting rooms with a capacity of up to 400. Business
services also will be available. Other facilities include a pre-flight
lounge, three restaurants featuring a variety of international cuisine
and a bar. Leisure facilities within the hotel will include a health
and leisure club, an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor tennis court.
Designed by John Seifert Architects, the AIC Hilton Lagos Airport Hotel
will form part of a larger US$100 million entertainment and recreation
development project by AIC Limited. This project includes a Casino/Cabaret
and an Entertainment Island, featuring an adventure pool, mini golf,
bowling and a virtual reality driving range.
The full-service airport hotel, which will be directly connected to
the international airport, is scheduled to open in late 2000. Hilton
has a growing worldwide portfolio of more than 50 airport hotels in
such key gateway cities as London, Paris, Amsterdam, Sydney, Vancouver
and Los Angeles.
Mandarin Announces Luxury Hotel In New York
NEW YORK Hong Kong-based Mandarin Oriental International Limited has
entered into a joint venture with a U.S.-based consortium of real estate
developers and investors to build a luxury Mandarin Oriental hotel in
New York City, for approximately US$200 million. Mandarin will manage
the hotel and own 50% of the property at a projected investment of US$50
million. The U.S.-based consortium comprises The Related Companies,
LP and Apollo Real Estate Advisors, LP.
The 250-room Mandarin Oriental, New York, will be developed as part
of the Columbus Center project, a premier mixed-use real estate development.
The hotel is being designed as a unique and luxurious city center hotel
with all guestrooms featuring breathtaking views of the city and Central
Park. A full-service spa and health club will be a prominent feature
of the hotel. Other facilities include a signature restaurant, lobby
lounge and bar, meeting and conference rooms, and a 5,500 sq.ft. (511sq.m)
ballroom overlooking Central Park. The hotel is scheduled to open in
2003.
Historic Site Transformed Into A Westin Hotel
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI The historic Cupples Station warehouse complex
in downtown St. Louis is being transformed into the 224-room Westin
Hotel, Cupples Station at a cost of US$55 million. Completion is scheduled
for late 2000.
The hotel will be comprised of three red brick,
interconnected buildings, which share common walls to create an L-shaped
complex. Developer for the hotel is St. Louis-based McCormack Baron & Associates & SunAmerica.
Program manager is Chicago-based Mesirow Stein Real Estate Inc., and
architects are Trivers & Associates, St. Louis. Anderson/ Miller,
Chicago, is the interior designer, and the construction
company is James McHugh, Chicago.
Hardwood floors throughout the hotel lobby will echo its historic character.
Public areas also will include hardwood flooring and barrel-shaped wood
columns that incorporate the original timber framing. Guests will have
access to a restaurant featuring exposed structural elements, bar and
lounge, and three large meeting rooms.
Ritz-Carlton Announces US$225M Project
WASHINGTON, D.C.Currently under development by
a partnership between Millennium Partners and Eastbanc Inc., the US$225
million, 300-room Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences will be the
third Ritz-Carlton property in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences will include 162 luxury condominiums,
a 98,000 sq.ft. (9,104 sq.m) fitness center and considerable retail
space. Condominium residents will have unique access to hotel amenities,
including roomservice and a dedicated concierge. "The opening of
the Ritz-Carlton in the Nation's Capitol assures our guests will enjoy
the advantages of a prime location just minutes from the White House
and Capitol Hill, close to Embassy Row, Georgetown, and the many other
attractions which make Washington a world-class destination," says
Horst Schulze, president and COO of The Ritz-Carlton
Hotel Company, LLC, Atlanta.
The hotel will offer a 10,000 sq.ft. (929 sq.m) ballroom, plus a junior
ballroom, boardroom and five breakout rooms. A 120-seat, three-meal
a day restaurant, with private dining room, will feature a glassed-in
cooking area showcasing chefs at work preparing gourmet cuisine. The
hotel is scheduled to open in late 2000.
