Steigenberger Builds Hotel On The Red Sea

By Staff -- HOTELS Magazine, 6/1/2000

HURGHADA, EGYPT German-based Steigenberger Hotels is building the 400-guestroom, 29-family suite and 80-villa Steigenberger Fanadir Hotel & Resort on the Red Sea. The hotel is scheduled to open in late 2001.

Although the resort offers an array of amenities, two amenities stand out. One is “Adventure Island,” which is separated from the mainland resort by a waterway. Foot bridges cross the waterway to reach the island’s trading ship theme restaurant, huts shaped into a shopping village, a beach bar, cave-shaped grill and disco illuminated glass aquariums. The other amenity is a large, organically shaped outdoor rock pool with a festive water slide and several shallow in-pool terraces.

Other amenities offered at the resort are a 450-seat restaurant with an 80-seat children’s area, a covered terrace for 350 people, lobby bar, an entertainment bar with connection to an amphitheater for 400 people, a health club and spa, saunas, steam rooms, Turkish hammams, Roman caldarium and indoor/outdoor pool. Also, the main hotel boasts a dramatic five-story atrium lobby with a panoramic view of the Red Sea. The lobby serves as the central axis and circulation hub for two curvilinear guestroom wings.

The hotel is owned by Master Line S.A.E., Cairo, Egypt. The architect is William B. Tabler Architects, New York, and the interior designer is Interior Designers Associates, Cairo, Egypt.

First Radisson Resort Hotel Opens in Norway

BEITOSTØLEN, NORWAY Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Minneapolis, Minnesota, announced the addition of a resort hotel in southern Norway. The property currently named the Beito Høfjellshotell will be renovated at a cost of US$3.5 million and reopen as the Radisson SAS Resort Beitostølen at the end of 2000.

The 140-room resort is ideally situated adjacent to ski lifts, cross-country trails and the Jotunheimen National Park which features the highest peaks in Norway.

The hotel offers a variety of restaurants and lounges, an indoor swimming pool, health club facilities, indoor tennis and squash courts, and conference and meeting facilities for up to 600 people.

“The Radisson SAS Resort Beitostølen will be a top quality product and will continue to further strengthen our position and profile in Norway,” says Kurt Ritter, president and CEO of Radisson SAS, Brussels. “This project is in line with our main focus to grow our resort hotels in combination with conferences, conventions and incentives.” The resort will be the 15th Radisson hotel to open in Norway.
