Boutique Hotel Planned For San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio, Texas A 12-story, 213-room boutique

hotel in San Antonio, Texas, is planned to open in 2002. The Hotel

Valencia San Antonio will be the newest luxury property along the

San Antonio’s Paseo del

Rio and the flagship for the newly created Hotel Valencia Corporation.

Architecture is by 3D\International, San Antonio, Texas, with interiors

by James Looney & Associates, Dallas.

Though the hotel’s architectural influence is largely Tuscan,

the property will reflect regional influences such as corded columns,

brightly colored stucco and tiled walls. The hotel will capitalize on

the city’s famous Riverwalk by affording guests spectacular views

from private balconies and public terraces with tables

and colorful umbrellas. Guests will have access to two meeting rooms,

one boardroom with breakfast room and two restaurants.

Choice Atlantica Builds

Quality Hotel In Brazil

Manaus, Brazil Choice Atlantica Hotels is building a

US$14.8 million 229-room Quality Hotel scheduled to

open in mid-2003.The hotel will be located in the heart of the thriving

city’s

business center and free trade zone, and next to South

America’s

fifth largest retail area, the Amazonia Shopping Center.

The Quality Hotel Manaus will be the first hotel built

in the city in 20 years and will feature a restaurant, lounge, meeting

facilities, business center, sauna and fitness center.

“With this hotel, Choice Atlantica has become the first international

hotel company to have presence in all of Brazil’s major cities,” says

Paul J. Sistare, president and CEO of Choice Atlantica.


Sheraton Strengthens Presence In Spain

Bilbao, Spain Starwood Hotels & Resorts, White Plains, New York,

and Abandoibarra Tercermilenio S.L. have entered into a long-term management

agreement under which Starwood will operate the 215-room Sheraton Bilbao. “We

are delighted to have signed this agreement with Abandoibarra Tercemilenio

S.L.,” says Roeland Vos, president of the European division of

Starwood. “With the Sheraton Bilbao we are adding a popular and

much-requested destination to the Starwood portfolio.” Starwood

currently owns and/or operates six hotels in Spain.

The Sheraton Bilbao will be located in the Abandoibarra area in the

heart of the City of Bilbao adjacent to the Euskalduna Congress Center

and within 547 feet (500 meters) of the world famous Guggenheim Museum

of Modern Art. Total construction costs (excluding site acquisition)

is expected to be more than US$25 million. The hotel is scheduled to

open in mid-2002.

Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta is designing the hotel. It will

have 215-deluxe rooms and suites, a restaurant and bar,

a ballroom, meeting rooms, underground parking, a swimming pool and

health club.


Delta, Sun Peaks Develops First-Class Resort

Sun Peaks, B.C., Canada Two Canadian-based companies,

Delta Hotels and Sun Peaks Resort Corporation, announced plans for

the design and construction of Delta Sun Peaks Resort, a first-class

230-room hotel and conference center to open for the Christmas 2001/2002-ski

season.

Inspired by the beauty and spirit of its location, the construction

and style of the resort will reflect the unique colorful charm of a

European mountain village. With 230 rooms, Delta Sun Peaks will be the

largest full-service hotel available at Sun Peaks. The hotel will be

located at the base of the mountain just steps from the Village Center.

It will feature a 150-seat restaurant, an 80-seat lounge, over 12,000

sq.ft. (1,115 sq.m) of meeting space with a 5,600-sq.ft. (520-sq.m)

ballroom, a full-service health club facility with pool, spa and fitness

center, underground parking and retail shops. The estimated cost of

the project is C$40 million.

Nippon Cable Company Ltd., Tokyo, owns Sun Peaks

Resort Corporation. Delta Hotels is the largest hotel company in Canada

and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts

Inc.


Marriott Resort Is Part Of Master-Planned Community

Phoenix, Arizona Marriott International Inc., Washington,

D.C. confirmed plans for Marriott’s Desert Ridge Resort & Spa,

Arizona’s largest resort and spa hotel.

The 950-room resort is expected to open in November

2002 and will be located within Desert Ridge, a 5,700-acre (2,307-

ha) master-planned community. Marriott has reached an agreement in

principal to partner with affiliates of CNL Hospitality Corporation,

Orlando, Florida, in the development and ownership of this exclusive

resort. “The Phoenix

area has long been a destination that appeals to leisure and business

travelers and Marriott has been a big part of that mix for more than

35 years,” says J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and CEO of Marriott

International Inc. “The addition of Marriott’s Desert Ridge

Resort & Spa continues our longstanding commitment to the Valley.”

Guests will enjoy ten distinctive dining experiences, a luxurious 28,000-sq.ft.

(3,066-sq.m) spa, an eight-court tennis pavilion, and

plans for three golf courses.
