São Paulo, Brazil According to interior designer Di Leonardo International, Warwick, Rhode Island, the design style of the 282-room Kempinski São Paulo has been carefully chosen to reflect an international cosmopolitan location with a distinct Brazilian classical flair. In order to marry the exterior of the building to this proven timeless style, a great deal of sensitivity was placed on pairing the proper furnishings, fabrics and millwork detailing with a fresh, 21st-century color palette.
The Presidential Suite, with its personal elevator, private foyer and special security, establishes the eminence of this entire wing of the building. Features of the suite include marble flooring; luxurious carpeting; state-of-the-art, special-effect lighting; an electronic player piano; private dining; entertainment bar and service kitchen. The master bedroom has a luxurious bath area featuring a Jacuzzi, built-in TV monitors, steam/rain environmental shower and a space large enough to accommodate a piece of your personal gym equipment upon request.
Other amenities include the Kempi Deli, which serves three meals; a gourmet restaurant; a premier business conference center with the latest technology; and a wellness floor that contains a hairdresser, a full-service health spa and an indoor/outdoor swimming pool.
The hotel is scheduled to open in 2003 and is part of a mixed-use complex.

Starwood Operates First Westin In Poland
Warsaw, Poland Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, White Plains, New York, will operate the first Westin-brand hotel in Poland when it opens in 2003. It is also the first design project in Poland by John Portman & Associates, Atlanta. “We designed the Westin Warsaw to become an icon to the city and to the people of Warsaw,” says John C. Portman III, CEO of John Portman & Associates.
The 366-room hotel will include facilities for conferences, a ballroom, a restaurant and a fitness center. The hallmark of the hotel will be a high-tech, glass, cylindrical elevator in the center of the hotel. John Portman & Associates said they wanted to create a dynamic guest experience, which led them to design the high-tech glass cylinder, in which the guest rises above the streets of Warsaw surrounded by panoramic views of the city.
The hotel is being developed jointly by Skanska Polska Development and Portman Development LLC. It will be one of the city’s most modern hotels providing business and conference travelers all the amenities needed to conduct business in the 21st century. The exterior of the hotel will be finished using pink and red granite, and an energy-efficient, clear, insulated glass that will give the hotel a warm and inviting look.
