Mixed-Use Development To Include Luxury Hotel

NINGBO, CHINA Brennan Beer Gorman architects have designed

a Regent hotel now under construction in Ningbo, China, a fast-growing

business area near Shanghai. The 325-room Regent Ningbo, scheduled

to open this year, will be the landmark feature of a 1.18 million-sq.

ft. (109,626-sq. m) project that also will include a mid-tier

hotel, offices and a retail and entertainment center. Designed to

appeal to

both international and local business travelers, the hotel

will have a chevron-shaped tower, with an entrance adorned with

two water features.

The high-ceilinged lobby will include a contemporary interpretation

of a classic Chinese garden, as well as three restaurants:

a Chinese restaurant, a bar and grill and an international restaurant.

There

also will be a Japanese restaurant on the hotel’s lower level,

complemented by a private Japanese garden. All standard guestrooms

on nine levels will be 450 sq. ft. (42 sq. m), with two executive

suites per floor. The Presidential and Governor suites, on the 10th

level,

will feature expansive landscaped terraces. The Regent Ningbo

will be the first of several Regent International Hotels to be developed

in China by Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific.

Hilton Building 8th Hotel In China

XIAMEN, China Hilton International has joined forces with Xiamen

city officials and property developer Xiamen Vast Art Industries

Co. Ltd. to build the 30-story, 410-room Hilton Xiamen in the Chinese

port

city. Slated to open at the end of 2006, the hotel will be

Hilton’s

eighth property in China.

Located on 15,748 sq. ft. (1,438-sq. m) one block from

the waterfront, the port side of the hotel will feature a 180-degree,

floor-to-ceiling wrap-around window. Guests will enter

the

hotel’s

public spaces via a glass-and-stone stairwell shrouded

by a three-story curtain of

crystal beads.

The first six floors of the hotel will be public spaces,

housing a large recreational facility with a lap

pool and dance studio, a number

of banquet outlets and full meeting facilities.

Food and beverage outlets will include an all-day marketplace

restaurant with Chinese and Japanese

kitchens, a contemporary Chinese restaurant with

private dining rooms and a destination bar.

Primarily a business property, the fifth floor

will be dedicated to meeting space and a

24-hour business center with full

secretarial

services. Also, an executive floor with private

library will be located at the rooftop level.
