Place d’Armes To Expand
Montreal, Quebec The
Antonopoulos Group has announced a US$21 million
investment in old Montreal with the expansion of the
Hotel Place d’Armes.
The renamed Le Place d’Armes Hotel & Suites will feature
luxury penthouses, expanded meeting and conference space, and
a full-service spa with Montreal’s first Hammam.
With the expansion, the hotel will encompass three adjacent heritage buildings. The Antonopoulos Group is the proprietor of three boutique hotels and several area restaurants, including Aix Cuisine du Terroir in the hotel.

million, 260-room Island Village Hotel being built
on Florida’s
South Hutchison Island. The hotel is scheduled for
completion in early 2007.

The Caribbean/Key West style hotel will include a resort-style spa, fitness center, three swimming pools and four stories of parking. Other features will be conference rooms, a children’s play area, a gourmet store, and Mangrove Matties, a private restaurant. A beach also will be created on the Ft. Pierce Inlet, to which the hotel has direct access.
To take advantage of ocean views, a 700-ft. (213-m) long linear design was created for the hotel, with an average of 63,000 sq. ft. (5,853 sq. m) per floor. A palette of aqua, pink and yellow pastel colors will define the exterior, along with shutters and a standing seam metal roof.
Westin In Works
For Tampa’s Rocky Point
Tampa,
Florida The Impact Group is developing a US$32 million,
200-room Westin hotel on Rocky Point Island, with groundbreaking
slated for this month.

The 12-story, 210,000-sq.-ft. (19,510-sq.-m) waterfront hotel is part of a 6.1-acre (2.5 ha) masterdevelopment plan on Rocky Point’s west side that includes the Oasis Rocky Point Island condominiums, high-end residences that are already 90% sold.
The hotel will introduce a unique wine-and-dining menu concept in Pairings, its waterfront fine-dining restaurant, and a full Starbucks café will be found in the hotel’s glass and natural stone lobby.
The Westin is scheduled for opening in December of 2006, with room rates starting at US$160 per night.
New Sheraton,
Westin Prototypes Coming To Baltimore Airport
Linthicum, Maryland Brentwood Hotels is building two
new prototype hotels near the Baltimore-Washington International
Airport to meet the needs of business travelers.
A 203-room Sheraton, slated to open in the fall of 2006, will be constructed next to a 206-room Westin, scheduled to open in the spring of 2007. Both properties will be managed by LTD Management Co. LLC.
These new prototypes from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide have been specifically designed for suburban markets, and will include brand enhancements such as high-speed wireless Internet access in all public areas and flat-screen televisions in all guestrooms. In addition, the Westin will include a full-service restaurant.
Both properties will offer flexible meeting and banquet areas. The Westin will have nearly 7,300 sq. ft. (678 sq. m) of this type of space and the Sheraton will have more than 4,600 sq. ft. (427 sq. m).

Historic
Hotel Site Is Locale For New Regent
Winter Park, Florida Coming
soon to the site of the former famed Langford Hotel in
central Florida will be the Regent Orlando In Winter
Park Hotel, Spa & Residences. The luxury development will include
140 boutique hotel rooms, 57 condo hotel suites, a
world-class spa and 23 luxury condo residences. Set on four acres
(1.6 ha), the development also will include a gourmet restaurant
by acclaimed chef Michelle Bernstein and more than 9,000 sq. ft.
(836 sq. m) of meeting and function space.
The 16,000-sq.-ft. (1,486-sq.-m) spa designed by Hirsch Bedner in consultation with Cary Collier will be the showpiece of the hotel. The spa will offer customized treatments, private cabanas, couples suites, a rooftop pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center and a full-service salon and boutique.
Each guestroom and suite at the “Old Florida” Spanish-style hotel will feature its own private patio, and guest services will include gourmet roomservice, 24-hour concierge service and various business and recreation services. The development is expected to open in late 2006 or 2007.

Getting Upgrade
Nashville, Tennessee The Gaylord
Opryland Resort & Convention Center last month launched a four-year,
US$45 million room renovation project.
Each renovated room will feature a more contemporary design—a departure from the southern-plantation feel of the current furnishing and décor. Rooms will include pillow-top mattresses; upgraded linens; custom draperies; new wall coverings and new carpeting; along with new lamps, tables and accent furniture. Also, all double/double rooms will be converted to queen/queen rooms.
The resort will renovate approximately 500 rooms per year during the next four years. In addition, the resort’s new Relache Spa & Fitness Center will open in July. Other resort features include 600,000 sq. ft. (55,742 sq. m) of flexible meeting and convention space, with high-tech breakout rooms next to the convention halls.
Sheraton Opening Soon
In Xiamen
Xiamen, China Scheduled to open in August, the new Sheraton
Xiamen Hotel will be the first 5-star hotel managed by
a global hotel chain in this southeastern coast port city.
The hotel will feature 360 guestrooms including executive club rooms and 48 suites of contemporary design. Food and beverage and recreation facilities will include a contemporary Pan-Asian buffet and à la carte restaurant, a cigar bar, a lounge, a pool bar, retail stores and an internationally managed spa.
Other facilities include a 600-sq.-m (6,458-sq.-ft.) ballroom, six additional meeting rooms and a 24-hour business center. Wireless Internet access will be available in most public areas of the hotel.

5-Star Hotel In Dubai
Dubai, UAE Emirates airline
has received approval for the construction of a 5-star, US$218 million
hotel in Dubai. The 70-story (350 m) tall building on Sheikh Zayed
Road, which will be among the world’s five tallest hotels, will
open in 2008.
Contemporary and futuristic in design, the hotel will break new architectural ground with cantilever rooms and more than 50 sky terraces. The stepped building will be encased in a glass and aluminum exterior.
The hotel will offer 560 deluxe rooms, 112 suites and a presidential suite, all with panoramic views of Dubai. It also will feature a 25,000-sq.-ft. (2,323-sq.-m) health club with gymnasium and spa. Entertainment facilities will include a shopping boulevard, 15 food and beverage outlets and a rooftop bar on the 69th floor.
