  • W Hotel Tower To Rise On New Jersey Waterfront
HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY A 27-story, 200,000-sq. ft. (18,581-sq. m) W Hotel tower is being planned for the downtown waterfront of Hoboken, New Jersey. The building will rise directly across from lower Manhattan on the west shore of the Hudson River.

The hotel will have 225 guestrooms along with 36 residences, which will occupy the top nine floors. A four-story base will include retail, a full-service restaurant, a café, a themed bar, event spaces and a basement parking garage. The tower’s wedge shape will offer nearly all of the hotel rooms and residences commanding views of the New York skyline and harbor.

Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects will design the base of the building and the hotel’s interiors, including the residences. The hotel’s main floor will offer a procession of spaces with a bold palette of contrasting materials, textures, colors and lighting. One wall of the main circulation spine will glow with a change of colors created by illuminating a fine stainless-steel mesh that lines the length of the wall. Other highlights are a 40-ft. (12-m) tall living room with faceted wood walls and a bold canopy that folds to create a large-scale W at the hotel entry.

Estimated at US$45 million to develop, the new hotel and convention center will be owned by Hammons and will be managed by Springfield, Missouri-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts LLC.
