  • Resort Under Construction Near San Diego
DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA Manchester Grand Resorts has announced that construction is under way on The Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa, which will include a new hotel and ownership villas on 24 acres (10 ha) nestled among The Grand Golf Club.

The 261-room resort will offer 5-star accommodations, including 19 hotel suites, a full-service spa and 39 ownership villas. Inside, hotel guests will find multiple food and beverage options, including a restaurant, café, cocktail lounge and wine rooms. Other features will include libraries, shops, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and a chapel. In addition, four outdoor pools and a Jacuzzi will provide open-air relaxation.

The Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa also will offer 20,000 sq. ft. (1,858 sq. m) of flexible meeting space, including a 10,000-sq. ft. (929-sq. m) grand ballroom. The buildings at the resort will honor the architectural touches of visionaries from the early 1900s, including the regional Mediterranean style of Addison Mizner.

Park Hyatt Bellevue To Remake 19th Floor
PHILADELPHIA Philadelphia’s 100-year-old national landmark hotel, The Park Hyatt Philadelphia at The Bellevue, has closed its 19th floor to begin a massive renovation and re-conceptualization of the space.

The 19th floor of the Park Hyatt Philadelphia is flanked by two 50-ft. (15-m) domed ceilings, topped with stained glass and surrounded by 40-ft. (12-m) Palladian windows that overlook the city skyline.

The floor, which previously contained a restaurant, cigar & cocktail lounge, a lobby area, meeting spaces and a business center, will feature two new restaurants, a new nightclub/lounge, a chef’s “viewing island” and “market pantry,” a chef’s dining room, a wine room, a new guest check-in lobby and business center, and new meeting spaces. The new areas are influenced heavily by the evolution of couture fashion through the 20th and 21st centuries. Expansive use of glass, water, amber, natural marble, slate and granite will be combined with colors of the earth and sea.

Ambiance will be heightened through the development of custom furniture, light, sound and visual display, and the use of custom fabrics, ceilings, draperies and rugs.

The 19th-floor renovation is expected to take about six months.

Contemporary Hotel Coming To Gretna Green
Gretna Green, Scotland Gretna Green Group Ltd. has announced plans to build Smiths at Gretna Green, a £5 million “city-styled,” contemporary hotel.

Designed by John Bray of Stockport-based Allison Pike Partnership Ltd., the hotel will combine a look that reflects the heritage of the area while drawing inspiration from Europe’s most hip hotels.

The hotel will offer 50 guestrooms, including deluxe and superior deluxe double rooms, eight innovatively designed family rooms and three suites. The hotel’s centerpiece is a duplex penthouse suite with a large plasma screen television and rooftop garden.

The development will include a bar and brasserie, conference facilities, and a spacious function room for receptions and parties.
