Shangri-La Expands In Inner Mongolia
INNER MONGOLIA Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will open a new hotel in the city of Manzhouli within China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in late 2007. This is the third property the group will develop in the region.
Designed by Shanghai-based Eva Want Studio, the hotel will feature 200 luxurious guestrooms with views of the city or the Xiao Bei Lake. The rooms will feature coffee- and tea-making capabilities, data ports, satellite
television and broadband Internet access. The hotel also will offer 24-hour room-service and same-day laundry service.
A range of restaurants, including a lobby lounge, an all-day dining restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, a specialty restaurant and an entertainment venue, will be available. Meeting and banqueting facilities will be the largest in the city, featuring a 116,150-sq. ft. (10,791-sq. m) ballroom and nine separate function rooms. Recreation facilities will include a health club and indoor swimming pool.
Ritz-Carlton Residences To Rise In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA The Arden Group plans to construct a new 44-story luxury condominium tower that will share amenities and services (including concierge, housekeeping and roomservice) with the adjacent Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia hotel.
When complete in spring 2008, The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton will be the tallest residential building in Philadelphia. The US$250 million project will consist of 17 acres (7 ha.) of floor-to-ceiling glass for the exterior. Inside, one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums will join 8,000 sq. ft. (743 sq. m) of Ritz-Carlton lounges as well as a fitness center, spa and a 60-ft. (18-m) swimming pool. The top of the tower will be crowned by the most expensive condominium home ever sold in Philadelphia, a US$12 million, 10,000-sq. ft. (929-sq. m) penthouse with 25-ft. (8-m) ceilings and an 800-sq. ft. (74-sq. m) terrace overlooking the city.
The building also will feature a new park and private garden at street level, including a 12-ft. (4-m) water feature. The design architect for the project is Handel Architects of New York City.
Shangri-La Hotel Beijing Continues Upgrade
BEIJING Following a phase one re-imaging program in late 2004, phase two of Shangri-La Beijing’s upgrade involves the construction of the US$50 million, 20-story Horizon Tower, which will be linked to the existing property.
The new tower will contain 140 guestrooms and a selection of deluxe specialty suites, including a duplex presidential suite. Other features will be a 1,300-seat conference hall, 18 function rooms, a contemporary restaurant/lounge, a spa and fitness center, and a variety of luxury brand retail shops. Completion is scheduled for 2006.
Borgata To Undergo US$547 Million Expansion
ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY Boyd Gaming Corp. and MGM Mirage have initiated a US$547 million expansion of the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa.
Designed by joint-venture architects Bower Lewis Thrower and Cope Linder Associates, the expansion is twofold: an 830,000-sq. ft. (77,110-sq. m) tower with associated 1,600-car garage, and a 330,000-sq. ft. (30,658-sq. m) low-rise portion.
The new guestroom tower will be 40 stories and will connect to the resort’s existing casino. It will include 700 classic guestrooms, 100 suites, indoor and outdoor pools, a spa and fitness center, new meeting space and retail shops. The low-rise expansion, currently under way, will adjoin Borgata’s existing low-rise. It will contain casino space, two nightclubs, retail attractions and three destination restaurants.
The low-rise expansion is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2006. The new hotel tower is slated for completion by the end of 2007.
Starwood Announces Cotton Bay Villas In The Bahamas
ELEUTHERA, BAHAMAS Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide announces the development of Cotton Bay Villas, a new resort that will be a member of Starwood’s Luxury Collection.
The 1,500-acre (607-ha) project will be unveiled in two phases with a soft opening scheduled for December 2006. Completion of the 73 guestroom resort is scheduled for December 2007, with a golf course, spa and marina expansion to come later.
The resort will offer two- and three-bedroom beachfront villas and a 26,000-sq. ft. (2,415-sq. m) clubhouse with full amenities, along with an octagonal enclosed pavilion overlooking the Atlantic for weddings and social events. The clubhouse also will include a Bahamian-fusion restaurant.
Guests at the resort will have access to two small, private islands that feature a 20-acre (49-ha) bird sanctuary and a seven-acre secluded beach. The resort also will be home to a plant nursery and will have an on-site horticulturalist dedicated to nurturing the property as part of the Audubon International Signature program.
Hotel-Condo Complex To Transform Vegas Skyline
LAS VEGAS George Clooney and Rande Gerber have joined with Related Las Vegas and Centra Properties to create Las Ramblas: a hotel, condominium and casino complex that will be the largest residential project in Las Vegas.
The US$3 billion project will be located on the Harmon Avenue corridor, just off the Strip. It will encompass more than 25 acres (10 ha) and feature 11 towers with a luxury hotel, luxury residences, bungalows, spa and health club, nightlife, dining, shopping and casino. Las Ramblas also will feature the city’s first open-air pedestrian promenade.
Construction will begin in mid-2006. Phase one, composed of the first four towers (which will include the 300-room hotel plus 370 condo-hotel units, a separate tower of 556 condo-hotel units, and two residential condo buildings with 629 total units), is to be completed in 2008.
Aman To Manage Resort In Utah
FOUR CORNERS, UTAH Singapore-based Amanresorts will manage a new luxury resort planned near the “Four Corners” region and Lake Powell in Utah. The resort will comprise 34 suites and 28 villas, along with a spa, restaurant, bar and lounge.
Suites will be 900 sq. ft. (84 sq. m) each and villas will be 6,000 sq. ft. (557 sq. m). Spacious public areas will join a dramatic entry defined by 400-ft. (122-m) rock walls to the east and an ancient ‘living’ sand dune to the west. Views look out to spectacular rock formations known as the Grand Escalante Staircase National Monument.
The total capital invested in the project is US$150 million. Construction is to begin in the final quarter of this year and to be complete by mid-2007.
