Marriott To Expand Portfolio In Dubai
DUBAI Marriott International will expand its hotel portfolio in Dubai with two new properties at RiverWalk in the Dubai Internet City Free Zone, thanks to management agreements with Capital Partners FZ LLC, developer of RiverWalk. The 300-room Courtyard by Marriott and the 120-unit Marriott Executive Apartments are both scheduled to open in 2008.
The hotels will be part of a US$1 billion mixed-use development that will include more than 460,000 sq. m (4.95 million sq. ft.) of office, residential and retail space. They will feature views of the artificial river and island, and will be surrounded by a boulevard with retail and food and beverage outlets.
For dining and entertainment, the Courtyard hotel will offer a casual restaurant with a grab-and-go kiosk and Internet café, a specialty restaurant, and a lobby lounge and bar. Recreational amenities will include a swimming pool and a health club, and the property will offer 3,200 sq. ft. (297 sq. m) of space for small conferences and social events, as well as a business center.
Jumeirah To Manage Group Of 5-Star Hotels In Jordan
AQABA, JORDAN Jumeirah will manage five 5-star hotels and a waterpark in the new US$616 million Saraya Aqaba real estate project, to be developed on 150 acres (61 ha) over the next four years, with completion scheduled for January 2009.
A key feature of the development will be a man-made lagoon on the coast, which will be surrounded by hotels. The project also will include beachfront villas, townhouses and apartments, along with office space, a contemporary shopping district, a convention center and a wharf promenade.
The entire development will be designed as a “city within a city,” but superior conference facilities, including fully equipped meeting rooms, ballrooms and function rooms, along with catering support facilities, will make Saraya Aqaba ideal for business conventions.
Park Plaza Plans Two Hotels On River Thames
LONDON Park Plaza Hotels Europe, in partnership with Galliard and Frogmore Property Co. Ltd., has announced two new
developments on the south side of the River Thames: the
County Hall Park Plaza and the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza, to open in 2008 and 2010, respectively.
The County Hall Park Plaza will feature 395 guestrooms, suites and penthouses, of which more than half will offer full kitchens. All rooms will contain flat-screen televisions and wireless Internet connectivity. The hotel also will offer a lounge, café, bar and restaurant, gymnasium and meeting rooms.
The Westminster Bridge Park Plaza will be a large conference hotel, offering more than 930 guestrooms and conference facilities for 1,000 people or more. The 14-story hotel is to become the flagship Park Plaza, with plans that include an atrium, a glazed canopy roof and an extensive spa.
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino To Hit Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS Remodeling of the Aladdin Resort & Casino into the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino is under way, with the transformation expected to be complete in the fourth quarter of 2006.
Renovations will include a new property façade and pedestrian plaza along with renovated hotel suites and rooms; an expanded casino; new restaurant, nightclub and entertainment offerings; and new retail outlets. The project also incorporates a new Planet Hollywood Westgate tower that will feature 1,000 multiroom timeshare, condo and hotel units.
The design team for the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino includes Dougall Design, Pasadena, California; Klai Juba Architects, Las Vegas; and M.J. Dean Construction Inc., Las Vegas.
Ground Broken On Lodge At Callaway Gardens
PINE MOUNTAIN, GEORGIA Noble Investment Group and Callaway Gardens have broken ground on The Lodge and Spa at Callaway Gardens. A 4-star resort, the lodge will feature 150 oversized guestrooms with four-fixture baths, along with a luxurious 13,000-sq. ft. (1,200-sq. m) spa and health club.
The spa will offer a wide array of classic and innovative treatments in 13 treatment rooms, and will include a yoga and exercise room and retail and salon services as well.
The interior of the lodge will feature an abundance of windows providing natural light, and each room will be done in soft, natural colors and offer its own balcony. Bathrooms will contain separate tubs and showers, along with granite countertops.
The lodge will be adjacent to the existing Southern Pines Conference Center, a 54,000-sq. ft. (5,017-sq. m) facility offering 17,000 sq. ft. (1,579 sq. m) of meeting space and 6,000 sq. ft. (557 sq. m) of pre-function space.
