GOOD NIGHT
In New York, a city full of chic hotels, new projects must go above and beyond to make an impression. New York hotelier Vikram Chatwal’s latest Night Hotel answers that challenge with cutting-edge design that pays homage to the “drama, power, vitality and innate sensuality” of Manhattan. The avant-garde interior is done entirely in black and white as the designers envisioned a “Gothic Gotham,” meant to capture the excitement of New York after dark. Adding to the edgy atmosphere, Night goes beyond personalized stationery to offer guests gothic-style, temporary “N” tattoos—not your average marketing tactic.
HIDING OUT
For those guests who seek a bit of privacy—and added luxury—at the beach, The Breakers Palm Beach, Florida, recently introduced a collection of 20 spacious beach bungalows. These cottagestyle retreats can be rented for daily use and come complete with private bath, living room-style furnishings, fully stocked refrigerator, robes and sandals, and private concierge service. The bungalows are a part of the property’s US$15 million beachfront redevelopment program, which also included the addition of extensive tropical landscaping, an outdoor dining venue, expanded cabanas and beachfront seating, and two pools.
MAP IT
Looking to create a more residential ambience, Marriott International is redesigning its TownePlace Suites extended-stay brand around the concept of “real living.” With this in mind, the new design replaces the typical hotel lobby with what Marriott is calling “The Launching Pad.” Similar to other new lobby styles launched of late, the Launching Pad offers more casual check-in procedures, communal gathering areas and a market offering grab-and-go food options. But a unique touch to this lobby is The Towne Map. This wall-sized interactive map allows staff and guests to share their recommendations and tips for exploring the local area—a useful guide for long-term visitors.
