InterContinental Hotels Group will open its first hotel on New Zealand's South Island after signing a management agreement with property developer Melview Developments Ltd.

| Dubai World To Partner With One&Only In Zanzibar MUYUNI BEACH, ZANZIBAR Dubai World, owned by the Government of Dubai, has announced it will partner with One&Only Resorts in the development and management of its new US$150 million luxury resort in Zanzibar, scheduled to open in 2009. One&Only Zanzibar will feature a 150-room luxury hotel, a 50-room residence and a spa retreat on a 76-ha (188-acre) site at Muyuni Beach in Zanzibar. Muyuni Beach is situated on an exclusive part of Zanzibar overlooking an atoll of coral reefs boasting some of Africa's leading dive sites. The resort is a 45-minute drive to Stone Town, the island's famous world heritage site, and a 15-minute flight from Dar Es Salaam. In addition, private luxury beach villas will be developed for sale at the resort, as well as a fisherman's village and watersports centre, a sports club and children's centre. All developments will make the most of the access to the three kilometre length of Muyuni Beach. The land overlooks a marine reserve comprising four distinct habitats which are home to a diverse array of Indian Ocean wildlife. |
SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC Luxury resort community Cap Cana SA is partnering with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. LLC to develop a world-class luxury resort, The Ritz-Carlton, Cap Cana, and a residential venture known as the Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, Cap Cana. The 220-room resort will complement Cap Cana's existing developments and will feature a range of luxury amenities, including a 16,000-sq. ft. (1,486-sq. m) spa, a private beach club, and five restaurants and lounges. The Ritz-Carlton, Cap Cana and the 194 privately owned beachfront and golf residences are scheduled to open in 2010 and are part of a two-phase US$1 billion endeavor. Spanning 30,000 acres (12,140 ha) of Caribbean waterfront, the Ritz-Carlton mixed-use property is taking center stage on a stretch of Juanillo beach. To capture the true beauty of the Dominican Republic beach, The Ritz-Carlton, Cap Cana plans to enhance all rooms with spacious balconies and ocean views, incorporating island materials and an abundance of natural light whenever possible. The resort also will include 8,000 sq. ft. (743 sq. m) of meeting space, offering individuals and groups a range of choices for every occasion. "Cap Cana has envisioned a bold luxury tourism and real estate development project that promises to be one of the most exciting new destinations in the Caribbean," says Marriott International Chairman Bill Marriott. NEW YORK CITY Tribeca Associates LLC is planning a US$220 million redevelopment of 330 Hudson Street to create a luxury boutique hotel, office space and retail opportunities in New York's Hudson Square neighborhood. Designed by architects Brennan Beer Gorman, 330 Hudson Street will incorporate the redevelopment of the existing vacant eight-story structure with the addition of an environmentally sensitive glass and brick tower that will bring the entire project to a total of 22 stories. The 171-key luxury boutique hotel will be the first hotel in the heart of Hudson Square. Construction on the LEED-certified building is under way. |
IHG Slates Indigo For Asheville ASHEVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA InterContinental Hotels Group is planing a 100-room Hotel Indigo in Asheville, North Carolina, with views of the Great Smoky Mountains. Construction of the 13-story new-build property is expected to begin early next year, with an anticipated opening in summer 2009. The property is owned and managed by Hospitality Lodging Investors II LP. The new hotel will feature signature design elements including oversized lobby chairs, guestrooms with hardwoodstyle flooring and spa-inspired showers, and a Phitness studio with cardio equipment and free weights. The hotel will offer a 24-hour business center, high-speed Internet access in all guestrooms and WiFi in public areas, as well as 465 sq. ft. (43 sq. m) of meeting space. The Golden Bean will showcase Indigo's unique approach to breakfast, serving traditional morning favorites with a twist. With an emphasis on ever-changing seasonal ingredients, Phi will offer both starters and entrees in the evening. The evening menu includes fresh salads, pizzettas, panini sandwiches, and other trend-forward entrees. Located in pedestrian-friendly downtown Asheville, Indigo will have 89 standard guestrooms and 11 suites overlooking downtown and the mountains. The property, built on less than an acre, will be located at 151 Haywood Street, minutes away from Asheville Regional Airport. Visitors to the hotel will be within walking distance of eclectic boutiques, art galleries, antique craft shops, restaurants, the civic center and the famous Grove Arcade historic retail venue. There are plans to show works of art from local artists on a rotating basis in order to fuse the thriving Asheville local arts community into the property. |
MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has signed InterContinental The Clement Monterey in California. The 208-room property is owned by Cannery Row Hotel Development Venture LP, and will be managed by Pacific Hotel Management LLC. Currently under construction, it is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2008. The Clement is the first new hotel to be built on Monterey Bay in more than 20 years. Adjacent to Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Clement is composed of three buildings, and the hotel will maintain the architectural integrity of the coastal community through contemporary craftsman-style detailing. Guests can take advantage of the views of harbor seals and the natural habitat of the bay from the courtyard, balconies and boardwalk. The hotel will feature 8,500 sq. ft. (790 sq. m) of indoor meeting space, outdoor event space overlooking Monterey Bay, a grand fireplace in the lobby, a signature restaurant and bar, a luxury spa and a fitness center with an outdoor lap pool. |
Viceroy To Anchor Snowmass Base Village SNOWMASS, COLORADO Related WestPac and Kor Hotel Group are building Viceroy Snowmass as the anchor hotel to the winter resort's new base village. Viceroy Snowmass is slated to open in late 2009. Related WestPac, which purchased the Snowmass base village project from Aspen Skiing Co. and Intrawest in March, has designed Viceroy Snowmass to be one of the first LEED-certified silver hotels in North America. Located just minutes from Aspen Mountain at the base of Snowmass' Assay Hill lift, Viceroy Snowmass will be a 236-unit condo-hotel ski-in/ ski-out property. Viceroy Snowmass will be operated by Kor. Its Viceroy brand offers luxurious and modern amenities, eco-friendly design and an energetic atmosphere. Viceroy Snowmass will offer uncompromising mountain resort amenities and service, including a 7,000-sq. ft. spa (650-sq. m) fitness center, yearround swimming pool, a kids club, business center, casual and fine dining, flexible conference space and ski valet facilities.
