Hot Promotions - JW Marriott Phuket Introduces Fire Lighting Ceremony

By Staff -- HOTELS Magazine, 8/1/2005

The JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa offers a unique fire lighting ceremony for guests to experience sunset and watch the resort transform under the flickering light of more than 100 flame torches.

The 15-minute ceremony takes place each evening, starting with a dance in the main lobby and its reflecting pond. A drummer is joined by two male dancers with special white paint on their faces and bodies, who show respect to the setting sun by twirling fire torches while another dancer circles in the pool and summons the night to come in. Meanwhile, four female dancers wearing white masks and traditional Thai dresses perform a Thai dance on the edge of the pond.
