Hot Opening: Malmaison, Belfast
By Staff -- HOTELS Magazine, 4/1/2007
Malmaison launched Malmaison Belfast on 29th November 2004. Known for its choice of distinctive, landmark buildings, the location for Malmaison Belfast is no different. Initially built in 1850 as two warehouses for seed merchants, the interior features oak board floors and iron columns, giving a unique and spacious feel to the property. The façade has attractive, detailed stone carvings that hint at the property's historical past.
Designed by Sniez Torbarina at Jestico and Whiles, the Belfast property is the smallest in the group with just 64 rooms. The design of the bordello style bedrooms has an exciting edge with a strong use of bold colours. 'Moulin Rouge' style black and cream striped lamps feature alongside luxurious throws and chocolate leather studded headboards. Gold and red velvet are both themes that run throughout the interior to complete a look that is sumptuously decadent.
The two massive 'Rock 'n' Roll' suites, draw together all the design elements, featuring nine-foot beds, double baths and billiard tables with views across Belfast.
Designed with attitude in provocative tones of black and silver, the brasserie serves traditional wholesome cooking in an eclectic way, washed down with great wines. The bold and vibrant adjacent bar features signature cocktails and a menu that has local flavor with Irish stew and soda bread.
