Hot Opening: Hotel Solamar
By Staff -- HOTELS Magazine, 4/1/2007
The 235-room Hotel Solamar opened in San Diego’s famed Gaslamp District in May. Susan Caruso of Intra-Spec Design infused the property with vibrant décor and a sense of urban style to appeal to both business and leisure travelers. The hotel’s 10,000-sq. ft. rooftop includes a pool, cabanas and fire pits.
Hotel Solamar features two dining destinations. Adjacent to the hotel is Jsix Restaurant, a bustling gathering place offering coastal California cuisine. The restaurant’s dining room, designed by Puccini Restaurant Group in San Francisco, offers an exotic, sensual ambiance, blending different cultural influences. Jbar, on the rooftop deck of the hotel, is a tropical, urban oasis overlooking downtown San Diego and the bay. With 225 seats surrounding the pool and patio, Jbar offers a menu of light, shareable dishes. Décor is done in electric hues of blue, purple and red, along with colorfully up-lit palm trees.
