Art-In-Architecture Hotel Built In TV Land
-- Hotels, 2/1/2008
The new Burbank Marriott Residence Inn is no ordinary hotel—as a tribute to Burbank's importance in the television and film industry, British artist Peter Fink, a principal of Art2Architecture London Ltd., transformed the building's façade into a lighted work of public art.
Fink, with the help of Entertainment Lighting Services and PK Architects, integrated LED light fixtures into the hotel's architecture at 12-ft. (4-m) intervals around the building's exterior. The display is programmed to provide a set of colors and patterns that echo the old abstract test patterns on early televisions.
The display, which also can be programmed to music, bathes all four sides of the hotel, and through changing light combinations is capable of displaying an endless array of color variations.
The hotel's TV theme continues inside, with relevant lobby art and themed guestroom floors.
