Karen Neuburger Outfits Hotel Monaco Suite

By Adam Kirby, Associate Editor -- Hotels, 4/1/2008

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants commissioned clothing and home furnishings brand KN Karen Neuburger to create the “ultimate sleep sanctuary” at its Hotel Monaco Chicago.

The KN Tranquility Suite, with its fabric-covered padded door, wall-mounted stone fountain, soft color palette, soothing sound machine, towel warmer and massage rollers, is framed as a serene feminine counterpart to the hotel’s other themed guestroom, the Party Like A Rock Star Suite.

“I always wanted to do the anti-rock ’n’ roll suite—something that was tranquil and quiet and soothing,” says General Manager Nabil Moubayed.

Like other king suites at the 192-key Hotel Monaco, the KN Tranquility Suite boasts reading nooks with 10-ft. (3-m) tall windows overlooking the Chicago River and the city skyline. But because of its other unique features—like the red velvet-curtained entryway—it garners a rate premium of about US$200 per night.

Although the 11th-floor suite is Karen Neuburger-branded and outfitted with KN Luxury Home products, its original design came from a contest among students at The Illinois Institute of Art.
