ACCRA, GHANA—Kempinski Hotels will manage a new 5-star hotel at a racecourse site in Accra, Ghana. Kempinski Hotel Accra is slated to open in 2010.
The project calls for 267 rooms, including 17 luxury suites and two presidential suites. The hotel, which will have the largest rooms in the city, is being designed to cater primarily to the business segment.
The hotel will house four restaurants, two bars, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a spa, a fitness centre, tennis and squash courts and shopping facilities. It will also have conference and banquet rooms, including modern meeting spaces with audio-visual facilities and a fully equipped business center.
Zakhem International Construction Ltd. will develop the hotel on the old Accra racecourse in the heart of the city. The hotel is the centerpiece of a public-private partnership with an integrated mixed-use hospitality facility covering an area of some 35 acres (14 ha).
Construction is under way on the US$49 million project, mostly financed through the African Development Bank and Amalgamated Bank of South Africa.
