FRANKFURT, GERMANY—At the Heimtextil Frankfurt show in January, organizers Messe Frankfurt presented the Young Contract Creations Award for Upholstery, in conjunction with Trevira CS and the trade journal PolsterFashion.
Students of interior and product design were asked to create functional and attractive seating for the public area of a hotel. The prize was €1,500 and training over several weeks at furniture manufacturer Michalke. The winner was Philipp Goreth, an interior design student at the Fachhochschule Coburg, for his “Personalita,” which takes its shape from ergonomic measurements of the human form when seated. It can be used as a chair, sofa or stool. Goreth chose a Trevira CS fabric by Christian Fischbacher to complete his design.
As well as seeing the work of their competitors, visitors to Competence Square Upholstery also sought inspiration from a comprehensive library of furniture fabrics in Trevira CS. One hundred of these, the work of 27 manufacturers from nine countries and all intended for the contract market, made a decorative display on tall and narrow stylized chairs. The French test institute IFTH also gave a presentation that included a video about fire tests it had conducted, providing viewers with convincing evidence of the flame retardant properties of Trevira CS textiles.
