Drift Spa at Palms Place, the 50,000-sq. ft. spa component of the recently opened development from George Maloof, features Las Vegas' first hammam, devised by spa industry designer/consultant Cary Collier.
The hammam concept, a wet relative of the sauna, uses heated stone slabs, aromatic inhalation and ambient steam to encourage cleansing and renewal. The Drift hammam design is marked by its curves, mood lighting and mosaic tile.
Collier, co-founder/principal of Whitefish, Montanta-based Blu Spas Inc., worked with a project team to create the hammam, as well as the layout coordination of all the spa areas, from the 20 treatment rooms to the back of the house.
"The hammam is an innovative concept for Las Vegas and we had the perfect team to pull it off," Collier says. "Designing an extraordinary spa includes an overall design palette that captures the guest and inspires them to see and experience everything, and then come back again and again."
The interior design for Drift Spa, done in warm earth tones and hues of gold and burgundy complemented by rich wood furnishings, is by New York-based Yabu Pushelberg.
