-- Hotels, 5/1/2008
ESSEN, GERMANY— More than 3,200 entries from 51 countries took part in the internationally recognized competition for the Red Dot Award given by Design Centre North Rhine-Westphalia. This seal of quality for outstanding design was awarded by an expert jury that weighed the entries on the basis of criteria such as innovation, functionality, formal quality, ergonomics, symbolic and emotional content and the ability of the product to communicate its essence.
This year’s winner is WellCome, a newcomer from the Schönwald design house. WellCome represents an homage to hospitality, inspired by nature. “WellCome is pure temptation, warm, 'strokeable’ and affectionate,” says star designer Carsten Gollnick, speaking about his winning creation. “The pieces entice one into holding them.” The smooth, asymmetrical lines are meant to reflect the regularity of the irregular. WellCome bestows a new, natural shape on the art of welcoming guests and creating an atmosphere of ease and well-being.
