The Dolder Grand, Zürich
-- Hotels, 5/14/2008
The Dolder Grand, an urban resort in Zürich, has reopened following a four-year, US$400 million renovation. The overhaul was one of the largest projects ever undertaken in the history of Swiss hospitality. The project was led by architects Foster and Partners and interior stylists United Designers, both based in London.
The new hotel fuses Old World architecture—the main building is a historic landmark—with modern style and technology. The new Dolder Grand has 173 guestrooms and suites (including four top suites designed for and named after cultural icons who also happened to be guests at the former Dolder Hotel), a 40,000-sq.-ft. spa designed by Sylvia Sepielli, two restaurants and a bar, a grand ballroom and even a geothermal energy concept. Swarovski Crystal fixtures and chandeliers adorn the ballroom, highlighted by 24-carat gold detailing.
