Westin Works Out With Wii

-- Hotels, 7/1/2008

Westin Hotels & Resorts has signed a deal with video game icon Nintendo to integrate its Wii console into the WestinWorkout program. The wildly popular Wii is a revolutionary gaming platform that uses motion-sensor technology rather than traditional hand-held controllers. Nintendo has created special Wii consoles for Westin that come pre-loaded with healthful games, including Big Brain Academy, Wii Sports and Wii Fit. The Wi-Fi enabledconsoles will update automatically as new games are published.

Wii is the first video game system to achieve widespread popularity beyond the under-30 demographic. That fact, along with Wii'scombination of fun and physical activity, makes it a perfect fit for Westin, says Senior Marketing Manager Ryan Anderson. “The Wii system has really changed the game in terms of the age range of participants,” Anderson says. “Wii is really reaching higher and lower than its competitors, and it is really hitting the sweet spot in terms of our client base.”

The Wii partnership is being piloted this summer at 10 Westin properties in the United States and may be expanded brand-wide at a later date.
