Thompson Hotels To Open In Seoul

-- Hotels, 8/28/2008 8:53:00 AM

AUGUST 28, 2008 (NEW YORK, NY) – Thompson Hotels has announced that it will further expand its portfolio of elite luxury hotels with Thompson Seoul in South Korea.  Thompson Seoul marks the brand’s first venture outside of North America and the first luxury boutique property of its kind in Seoul.

Thompson Seoul will be located in the stylish city center along the bank of the Han River, next to Han Riverside Park and the Park Hyatt.  Designed by Studio Gaia and Ilan Waisbrod, the hotel will boast amazing views of the Seoul skyline including the Olympic Stadium which is located in Seoul’s bustling business district.

The hotel and its 100 guestrooms will fuse Western boutique style and amenities with Korean touches, making it an ideal place to experience this up-and-coming tourist destination. The penthouse suite will consist of a private deck and outdoor spa pool. The ground level of the hotel will feature a lush, eco-friendly garden space that is connected to the park, providing guests with a natural escape from the city. The entire hotel will double as an art gallery, exhibiting pieces from internationally renowned artists.  20,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space will also be available for weddings, business conferences and more.

“Thompson Hotels has a reputation for offering unique experiences and luxurious havens in chic, urban areas” says Stephen Brandman, co-owner Thompson Hotels “We are happy to extend this reputation to the Asian market.”

In true Thompson tradition, Thompson Seoul will be home to a private rooftop bar and pool.  Located on the 15th floor, the bar and pool will provide stunning views of the Han River and the Seoul skyline.  An additional bar will be located on the eighth floor with exclusive views of Tancheon Park.  Guest can also enjoy a specially selected bottle of wine in the hotel’s Wine Cellar.

The Seoul hotel will be the first Thompson property to feature a three story golf driving range, with a 200-foot driving distance.  The golf area will occupy the sixth through eighth floors of the hotel and will include a putting green, locker room facilities, golf screens and a snack lounge. The property will also house a 50,000 square foot full-service spa and a 7,500 square foot gym.

“We will provide a design aesthetic that does not yet exist in Seoul” adds Jason Pomeranc, co-owner of Thompson Hotels. “We felt that this was a perfect opportunity to take the Thompson brand overseas.”

Local Seoul residents have the ability to partake in all of the luxurious amenities of Thompson Seoul through an exclusive membership program.  A $100,000USD one time investment covers the initiation fee for use of gym, spa and driving range, storage space in the hotel’s wine cellar and discounts at all hotel bars, lounges and restaurants.  Members also have access to the Members Library consisting of a lounge and conference room for meetings and events.
