Vegas' M Resort Takes To Skies With Its Own Airship
-- Hotels, 10/1/2008
MResort, Spa and Casino, the US$1 billion resort to open next spring on the Las Vegas Strip, has commissioned The Lightship Group to fly a 178-ft. (54-m) electronic blimp over Sin City. A 2,100-sq. ft. (195-sq. m) LED video screen—purportedly the world's largest aerial monitor—covers one side of the airship, while the resort's logo adorns the other side. The video screen will be primarily used to display external and internal advertising and offers, but also will occasionally broadcast live video from the property—a concert or a slots tournament, for instance.
“In today's world, we were looking for a way to differentiate, other than the normal avenues, to get our message out,” says M Resort Chairman and CEO Anthony Marnell III. “People locally are saying, 'Wow, that's really out of the box, that's something different.'” The M Lightship became a part of the Las Vegas skyline in September, flying at an altitude of about 1,000 ft. (305 m) M Resort has a two-year renewable lease on the aircraft.
