Hotel Restaurants Absent From 2008 Beard Awards
The 2008 James Beard Foundation Award winners have been announced, and no hotel restaurants or chefs are among them.
Perhaps the closest was Dean Fearing, chef/owner of Fearing's at the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, which was up for Best New Restaurant, but lost out to Central Michel Richard.
Another celebrity chef with hotel ties who just missed was Jean-Georges Vongerichten (who has partnered with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide to do restaurants at a number of properties across Starwood's luxury brands).
Vongerichten was up for both the Outstanding Restaurateur Award and the Oustanding Restaurant Award, but did not win either distinction this time around.
Was this an unfortunate outcome for the hotel industry? What are your thoughts?
