Random Act Of Kindness
July 28, 2008
This isn't hotel-related, but it's too good of a story to not blog about.
I was sitting at the bar Saturday night at Sneakers Sports Grille in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, sipping a brew and watching my White Sox on TV.
Out of the blue, some guy walks up to me, pats me on the back, drops a $100 bill in my lap and says, "Buy yourself a beer on me." Without missing a beat, he continued walking out the door. I didn't see him again the whole night.
No explanation for his stunning generosity. I was too dumbfounded to ask why a perfect stranger would hand me a $100 bill. I don't think I looked that homeless that night, nor did my anonymous benefactor look particularly wealthy. In fact, he couldn't have been much older than me, and wasn't dressed much better.
I'm pretty sure it qualifies as the weirdest thing that's ever happened to me.
So I'm left with two questions for the peanut gallery.
1. What the heck was that?
2. What should I do with the cash?

That's two years of drafting the Bears defense a few rounds too early in fantasy football! Way to go, Kirb!

You probably were giving an image of depressed man, drinking alone at a bar on a Saturday night. Besides, his friends bet him to do it or not. Give the money to any homeless and you..get some friends for Sat. nights

Cut me some slack, Rosa, I was traveling solo in a new city 1,000 miles from home ...

What should you do with the random act of kindness? PAY IT FORWARD!! Do something nice for someone else...that's what it's all about! Pay it forward.
