Proposed Hotel Out Of This World
August 13, 2007
No, really, it would literally be out of this world.
A group of Barcelona investors, led by architect Xavier Claramunt, are planning to build a three-key boutique hotel in space. Dubbed “Galactic Suite,” the US$3 billion property is slated to open in 2012, although whether it will actually happen—let alone whether it will actually have any guests—remains to be seen. A three-night stay at Galactic Suite would cost well heeled space tourists a cool US$4 million. Granted, the cost would also include an 18-week space training mission in the Caribbean.
Over the three nights, “guests would see the sun rise 15 times a day and use Velcro suits to crawl around their pod rooms by sticking themselves to the walls like Spiderman. Company director says the three-bedroom boutique hotel's joined up pod structure, which makes it look like a model of molecules, was dictated by the fact that each pod room had to fit inside a rocket to be taken into space.” The architecture of the hotel would be reminiscent of a vine of grapes.
It might be worth staying at Galactic Suite solely for the shower experience, which would feature bubbles of water floating around a spa room.
