Attention To Detail Rocks
Attention To Detail Rocks
July 26, 2008
I'm spending the weekend staked out at One Ocean Resort Hotel and Spa, the first property to open as part of Remington's Gallery Collection. Formerly the Sea Turtle Inn, this oceanfront property in Atlantic Beach, Florida, has undergone a US$28 million transformation, having reopened in May.
I don't know much about the pre-conversion property, but they did a fantastic job making this a gorgeous resort. The superb attention to detail is imminently noticeable, bringing the marine theme into focus in a complete yet stylish way. Bubble imagery abounds, and aqua hues are everywhere, right down to guestroom phones customized with blue lights instead of the standard red.
But nowhere is the scene-setting detail more jaw-dropping than in the entryway to Azurea, the resort's oceanfront restaurant.
Those columns are actually polished rocks that were individually drilled and strung up one-by-one. There are 38 of these columns, each with about 60 rocks each. That comes out to a mind-boggling 2,280 rocks that had to be hand-drilled.
Now that's dedication to a theme.
