I Want The Contract NOW! Ways To Speed Up Slow Decision Makers

February 4, 2010

Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory impatiently stated, “Daddy, I want an Oompa Loompa now!” Veruca just happened to have a willing to please, wealthy father that pacified her every wish and told her that he would get her one.In our world, simply announcing that you want something isn’t always enough to produce the desired item. Could you imagine, standing in the middle of your office and exclaiming in a British accent, “Daddy, I want a signed contract now!” Be sure to stomp your feet accordingly.

What tactics do you use in order to expedite having customers sign your documents? I discussed with a few friends and they offered some suggestions:

1. Involve other “executives” to make calls to your clients to show full engagement of the entire property
2. Propose a tiered rate structure. For example, $99 if signed by 3-1-10; $119 if signed by 4-1-10
3. Offer additional concessions that expire over time. “If contract is signed by Friday, I am able to include a complimentary welcome reception.”

I am anxious to hear what you think of these suggestions. Meeting Planners be sure to post comments we want to know if this “theoretical” hotel sales approach would indeed work to encourage you to sign more quickly.
