SLS Hotel South Beach opened Thursday in Miami, in a historic art deco building that housed the Ritz Plaza Hotel.

The hotel offers 140 guestrooms, of which 130 are located in the main tower. Ten villas occupy a new addition to the building. In-room iPads offer some concierge services and feature a “champagne now” button, which will have champagne brought to guests anywhere on the property.

In his design for the hotel’s interior, Philippe Starck used whites and pinks to reference the sophistication of the old French aristocracy.

Lenny Kravitz and Kravitz Design Inc. designed the interiors of the Tower Penthouse and the Villa Penthouse. The Tower Penthouse uses a warm, eclectic style and colors in a nod to art deco architecture, while the Villa Penthouse features contemporary design with art deco details.

The property’s front Bar Centro Terrace offers breakfast and light fare by José Andrés, while Bar Centro has small bites and cocktails. The hotel will also house The Bazaar by José Andrés, with a menu that blends Spanish cuisine with Latin flavors.

sbe’s Katsuya by Starck, in partnership with master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi, has its eighth location in SLS Hotel South Beach. The restaurant offers Japanese fare with a twist, including creative sushi and robata dishes, against the backdrop of Philippe Starck’s design. A sake tower rises in the center of the restaurant. On the restaurant’s second floor, the Dragon Lounge serves Katsuya by Starck’s cocktails. Just next door to the Dragon Lounge, Sam’s serves a variety of cocktails.

Hyde Beach, from sbe’s Hyde Lounge nightlife brand, has 8,000 sq ft (743 sq m) of indoor and outdoor lounge space. The oceanfront nightlife spot also serves José Andrés cuisine to 200 guests seated around the guest pool and the Hyde Beach pool from a mobile kitchen designed by Sam Nazarian, Starck and Andrés.

Cabanas at the guest-only pool are outfitted with a mini-refrigerator, phone, flat screen TV, and games; poolside massages, manicures and pedicures are available in the cabanas.
