What’s Hot: Sheraton Hanover Pelikan shows off new guestrooms

Sheraton Pelikan in Hanover, Germany, has a new look for its guestrooms.

The red brick building that houses the 147-key hotel was built in 1906 as the production factory for Pelikan, which manufactures ink and paint. Guestrooms located in the old production areas have large windows and ceilings up to 14 ft (4.25 m) high.

JOI-Design emphasized the building’s heritage in the guestroom redesign. Parchment and ink inspire the color palette of natural tones. The carpet’s design suggests ink splashes and hand-sketched lines, while the pattern on the curtains mimics ink spots.

Three glass pendant lights above the desk are similar to the shape of an ink bottle, and the bottle’s lid inspires the serrated edges on the bedroom side tables.

Each room has a unique piece of art displayed in an illuminated glass panel set into the headboard; the art features handwriting from staff at the hotel and from JOI-Design.

Vaulted ceilings make the rooms feel like lofts, while large windows let in natural sunlight.

In the corridors, lines on the carpet mimic left- or right-justified text; large stylized elliptical shapes reminiscent of ink blobs indicate guestroom entrances.
