Hot Openings: Café Royal reopens as a hotel

After a four-year transformation, London’s Café Royal has reopened as a luxury hotel.

The property now has 159 rooms and suites, including six historic suites, as well as a selection of dining venues, a private club, and meeting space.

David Chipperfield Architects oversaw the project, with Donald Insall Associates’ restoration work blending a contemporary design with original 1865 details.

The guestrooms and suites are now open, as is the Ten Room (a brasserie), the Grill Room (now a Champagne bar), the Domino Room (fine dining), The Bar, and a café. In March 2013, the rest of the building will open, including the Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre and the remaining historical suites.

Andrew Turner serves as the property’s executive chef.

Café Royal is the second member of The Set, Alfred and Georgi Akirov’s new contemporary hotel collection. Hotel Lutetia in Paris will join The Set soon.
