Hot Openings: Dual-branded hotel at LA Live

Two Marriott brands have come together in a US$170 million project.

The Courtyard and Residence Inn L.A. Live is the first branded select-service property to open in downtown Los Angeles in two decades. The 174 Courtyard rooms and 219 Residence Inn suites are on the same floors as well as sharing a fitness center, two meeting facilities with a total capacity of 350 people and public spaces with a strong L.A. vibe and shared amenities.

It was up to design firm Degen & Degen to keep each brand’s visual hallmarks while still allowing for a unified aesthetic. For the Residence Inn suites, that meant  making the signature purple tone the backbone of the design. Rich shades on pattern carpeting and solid walls in the kitchen and bathroom areas create a simple, bold statement. The golden tones in the Courtyard rooms echo that same design narrative.

Purple tones dominate the Residence Inn Lounge.

The hotel’s public spaces meld the two colors. The shared lobby is accented with purple and gold chairs. The carpeting in the corridors also unites the two tones.

“The energetic L.A. vibe can be felt throughout the custom-designed hotel," said Janis Milham, senior vice president of Modern Essential and Extended Stay brands, Marriott International. "Its unique décor and layout allows guests to experience all the shared benefits of having two hotels under one roof."
