It’s all in the telling: A fun piece in the New York Times underscores one way to capitalize on what makes your hotel different from anywhere else on earth: its history. Does your hotel employ someone who knows the ins and outs of the building, its former storied visitors, or those skeletons in the guest room closet? Real estate developer Anthony Champalimaud and his wife undertook exhaustive research on the historic guesthouse of Troutbeck, in New York, after they purchased it, and added physical and thematic reminders of the original owners when they updated its design – and added immensely to the cachet of the place.
