Accor mandates face coverings for some guests 

Effective immediately, all guests and visitors at Accor properties across North and Central America will now be required to wear face coverings in all indoor public spaces to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Accor employees already have been required to wear masks, in addition to other preventive measures implemented as part of the company’s global Allsafe cleanliness label and the region’s “All Safe & Well” wellbeing platform.

Egypt’s hotel market records 50% decline

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a marked impact on Egypt’s hotel industry, according to data from Colliers. In the year to date, the second quarter of 2020 has been marked by significant declines in demand across the Egyptian market, with most markets experiencing occupancies below 10% in the quarter, including leisure markets in the Red Sea, Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada. This resulted in a year over year decline of over 50% in the first half of 2020.

Scotland’s recovery fund targets 3,000 jobs

The Scottish Government has announced a £14 million (US$18 million) hotel recovery program intended to secure 3,000 jobs in the tourism sector. The country’s finance secretary said the program will focus on protecting larger hotels and will be open for expressions of interest at the end of August. Eligible businesses can apply for individual grants of up to £250,000 (US$327,000).
