Nepal’s billionaire hotel developer

Binod Chaudhary defines himself as a small man from a small country with big dreams.

Chaudhary, chairman of Kathmandu-based conglomerate CG Corp Global, isn’t so small – he’s Nepal’s only billionaire, according to Forbes. CG Hospitality Holdings, whose managing director is Chaudhary’s son Rahul, has 106 hotels and 5,512 keys open, with another 28 hotels and 2,049 rooms under development in 12 countries and 93 destinations.

Those hotels are facing the same pandemic-induced financial challenges as the rest of the world. They have the backing of the corporate parent, Chaudhary admits, but his own worldview is shaped by the teachings of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, which have supported his inner journey and perspective on his companies.

“We’re not going to stop,” he said. “If your vision is clear, and if you believe in your vision and your idea, and if you have the determination to convert that idea into a reality, resources will follow.”
