Fairmont San Francisco reopens

The iconic Fairmont San Francisco will reopen its doors to guests and visitors on September 17. At each touchpoint through the resort, measures are being taken to protect guests and employees, including physical distancing; mandatory screening for guests and employees, which may include a temperature check; a 48-hour “settling period” for occupied rooms post-departure; increased frequency of cleaning and disinfecting; and other measures.

COVID-19’s impact on India’s hotel sector

The first half of 2020 had been one of the strongest performing years so far for the Indian hotel market in the past decade, according to Horwath HTL. Hawaii hotels pushes to relaunch trans-Pacific travel

After Hawaii Governor David Ige said he would likely push back the reopening date for mass travel to Hawaii, the state’s hotel industry and several business leaders called on him to reopen as soon as possible. In a letter to the governor, the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association said that if the state can’t lift the 14-day quarantine for transpacific travel on October 1, it favors reopening in stages, with mass travel resuming October 15. Most recently, Kauai was the first island to take a step toward relaunching its tourism sector by giving visitors a little freedom during their 14-day quarantine in “resort bubbles.”

Virtuoso: Beaches, cruises majority of new bookings

Recent data from global luxury travel network Virtuoso show that upscale U.S. travelers are hitting the road and taking weeks and months-long getaways as well as multi-family vacations. A survey of Virtuoso’s travel agency members forecasts leisure travel bookings to return and stabilize in six months to a year. Additional insights include:

•       Across all regions, domestic beach/island destinations and ocean cruises make up the majority of new bookings

•       Flexible cancellation or rebooking policies are by far the most import factor for clients when booking international trips, ahead of both cleaning and safety protocols and the COVID-19 infection rate in the destination
