Wynn Resorts: 548 COVID-19 positives, three deaths

Wynn Resorts said it has tallied 548 positive tests for COVID-19 among its 12,000 employees since May, and additionally three workers have died. Wynn reported that testing found 51 positive cases of the new coronavirus among returning workers before reopening June 4, and 497 since then. In a statement, company CEO Matt Maddox said a 10-person full-time contact tracing team determined that 98% of those who tested positive contracted the virus outside of work. The company has offered support and financial aid to families of the employees who died.

Disney’s Swan and Dolphin to lay off 1,136

The Swan and Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World in Florida plans to lay off 1,136 workers, effective by November 13. The layoffs are spread throughout a wide range of positions at the company that operates the hotels, from administrative assistants to food and resort services. The announcement comes on the heels of Disney announcing that it would not open its water parks until March 2021 — and even then, only one.
