Struggling U.S. hotels need relief: AHLA

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) released a new survey indicating that 74% of hotels would be forced to lay off additional employees and two-thirds of hotels (67%) would not make it another six months if the U.S. Congress fails to pass another COVID-19 stimulus bill.

Luxury rental: Nordic luxury brand Scandinavian Hospitality has launched a new concept in the Scandinavian market by combining the rental of holiday villas with 5-star hotel service. The rent includes private chefs, daily cleaning, hotel linen and luxury amenities with the opportunity to add a number of other services. Thirty high-end villas are offered and before the end of 2021, the goal is for the portfolio to grow to 100 villas and apartments.

Zleep in Copenhagen area: Frankfurt-based Zleep Hotels will take over the operation of the Quality Hotel Høje Taastrup outside Copenhagen on October 1. The site had been on the wish list for the company for some time, according to Zleep Hotels CEO Peter Haaber. In addition to the restaurant and 12 conference and meeting rooms, the 151-room hotel has a large reception with an associated lounge area and bar. 

Corporate Travel Management’s acquisition: Brisbane, Australia-based Corporate Travel Management Ltd. will acquire U.S. travel management company Travel and Transport, including its radius travel business, for US$200.4 million. Founded in 1946, Travel and Transport is headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, with operations across the globe. Its geographical footprint and sector exposure are complementary and will expand Corporate Travel Management’s operations into the U.K., Germany and France.

Hotel Nikko Changshu to open in 2023: Tokyo-based Okura Nikko Hotel Management, a subsidiary of Hotel Okura, will open Hotel Nikko Changshu in 2023. The hotel will be located at Changshu National New & Hi-Tech Zone in Changshu city, one of the county-level cities in the Suzhou of southeastern Jiangsu Province, China. The company has contracted with Changshu Kuncheng Development Investment to manage, via its joint venture BTG Nikko International Hotel Management. The 288-room hotel will have a full range of facilities, including a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, all-day dining and banqueting facilities, in addition to a fitness center and indoor pool.

Valley Hotel Hilton to open in Alabama: Atlanta, Georgia-based Valor Hospitality Partners will open The Valley Hotel, a 129-room luxury hotel, in Homewood, Alabama. The hotel, opening in January 2021 and part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, will have an upscale chef-driven restaurant, a signature cafe and over 7,000 square feet of meetings and event space.
