Briefs: Hoshino in China | A new US$400M hotel in NYC

Hoshino in China: Japanese hospitality group Hoshino Resorts will launch hotel operations in China in the spring of 2021. The Nagano-based company is planning to open Hoshino Resorts Kasuke Tiantai in eastern Zhejiang Province. The coastal region is a popular tourist destination, attracting 20 million visitors annually to its Buddhist temples. The 103-room property will have restaurants along with swimming pools. Rooms will start at  ¥2,888 (US$427) per night.

RLH relaunches GuestHouse brand: Denver-based RLH Corp. has relaunched its GuestHouse International as GuestHouse Extended Stay, targeting the upper-economy extended-stay market. The company says it is suited for conversions, featuring streamlined housekeeping services, community-centric guest amenities and brand standards designed to maximize owner return on investment. Properties will include a minimum of 10% of rooms with full kitchenettes with the remaining guestrooms having modified mini kitchenettes. Other features: blackout modern window treatments, refreshed art packages, a dining table that can be used for working and eating, and one soft seating element. Each GuestHouse Extended Stay will feature an in-lobby marketplace with fresh snacks and beverages and a food delivery partnership through a major meal delivery service.

Resorts World Casino’s US$400M hotel: While many New York hotels are sitting largely empty because of lost business due to the coronavirus pandemic, the owner of Resorts World Casino NYC at Aqueduct in the Queens neighborhood of New York City announced plans to open a new US$400 million Hyatt Regency-run hotel next to its gambling facility, which sits next to the Aqueduct race track. The hotel, owned by Malaysia-based Genting Americas, will be called Hyatt Regency JFK at Resorts World New York. The plan calls for an eight-story, 400-room, 4-star hotel to open in 2021.

Driftwood plans beachfront Element in Florida: A South Florida developer plans to redevelop a parking lot into a new beachfront hotel, according to reporting from the Orlando Business Journal. Coral Gables, Florida-based development firm Driftwood Capital plans to start construction in third-quarter 2021 on a 120-room Element hotel. The roughly US$40 million project requires approval from the city of Melbourne, Florida. Miami-based Bermello Ajamil & Partners is the project architect.

Innventures signs two: Seattle-based InnVentures, an extended-stay and select-service third-party hotel management company, will manage the 134-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott Bozeman in Montana and the Hyatt Place Dallas/North Arlington/Grand Prairie in Texas. Opened in May 2017, the 90-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott Bozeman has a pool and spa, large fitness center, and more. This marks the fifth hotel that the company will manage for Montana-based owner BlackRidge Cos.
