Inspirato’s Handler catches a wave in perfect storm

Subscription travel appeals to luxury travelers who don’t tolerate unwanted surprises. That’s where Inspirato comes in: The high-end vacation club founded in 2010 aimed to one-up a sector that founder and CEO Brent Handler said had lacked innovation.

“July, August and September have broken all of our occupancy records,” Inspirato founder and CEO Brett Handler said.
“July, August and September have broken all of our occupancy records,” Inspirato founder and CEO Brett Handler said.

Inspirato provides access to vacation homes, hotel rooms and experiences through two subscription memberships and relies on an algorithm to make the economics work. Hotels rooms are filled opaquely, and members don’t know what the actual rates have been discounted to.

With more than 12,000 members, Handler told HOTELS the business is profitable and growing rapidly. Inspirato is adding to its inventory, which includes some 500 luxury hotels and more than 300 leased homes, much faster than it ever has.

“We’ve had higher occupancy than any other time in the company’s history since reopening,” Handler told HOTELS.
