Business as usual? HOTELS top 5 stories for October

If HOTELS top five stories for the past month are any indication, hoteliers are rolling up their sleeves and getting on with business – even as larger moves take place in the broader industry.

Bigger picture, our number one story was the news that Marriott International took steps to become 100% owner of Berlin-based Design Hotels; number four was Preferred Hotels & Resorts’ moves to bring Luxe Collection hotels into its distribution fold.

But the day-to-day work continues – with stories about how F&B departments are maintaining a luxury appeal to guests even as they adhere to stringent cleanliness requirements, and how revenue managers are tweaking their offers (and where).

Mary Gostelow’s interview with Pierre-Louis Renou, outgoing general manager of the 349-room Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes, France, rounds out the top five.

Here’s the top five for October:

1. Marriott moves to take full ownership of Design Hotels

2. Hotels balance hygiene, luxury appeal

3. Cannes GM’s swan song quieter without ILTM

4. Preferred picks up Luxe Collection hotels

5. Achieving channel sanity in the COVID-19 era
