Millennials want to travel for holidays: Study

A new survey has found that the travel industry is likely to get a significant boost over the holidays, according to research from MMGY Travel Intelligence. The survey, which queried people planning to travel in the next six months, found that half of respondents intend to take trips between November and early January, with 25% traveling for Thanksgiving, 31% traveling for the December holidays and 15% for New Year’s celebrations. Much of that demand comes from millennial travelers. 

Without golf crowds, Augusta hotels hurting

The annual Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia, is a longstanding revenue generator for the area’s hotels, but with the competition postponed until this month without fans, properties already delinquent on mortgages are losing a much-needed lifeline.

Landscaping, not hospitality 

With the U.S. presidential election seemingly concluded on Saturday in Democratic challenger Joe Biden’s favor, President Donald Trump’s campaign tweeted that a press conference would be hastily convened at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia. Minutes later, the Four Seasons Hotel Philadelphia tweeted that the presser, featuring the president’s personal lawyer, would actually be held at Four Seasons Total Landscaping, a small business off a Philly highway. First Atwell Suites hotel now under construction: IHG Hotels & Resorts’ first Atwell Suites hotel is now under construction in Miami. Expected to open by summer 2021, the 90-room hotel will be a part of a new high-rise, mixed-use property which will also include a new 140-room Hotel Indigo Miami Brickell. This property is owned by Francisco Arocha, Pedro F. Villar, Albert Ovadia and Sunview Cos. Atwell Suites is IHG’s newest brand, an extended-stay product for longer stays of up to six nights.

Peninsula’s new offerings: Peninsula Hotels is launching two new options to give guests more flexibility. First launched at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, “Peninsula Time,” will now roll out group-wide, eliminating typical hotel industry check-in and check-out times and accommodating guests on their own schedules for ultimate flexibility. Beginning in January 2021, guests may check in and out at any hour of the day or night for no additional fee. Additionally at that date, standard cancellation time will be 3p.m. one day prior to arrival, allowing guests to change reservations without penalty for up to 12 months from booking date.
