Briefs: What’s next for Crown? | Trump merch canceled in Scotland

The future for Crown: It’s a particularly nail-biting few days for James Packer’s Crown Resorts. In less than a month its Sydney jewel casino at Barangaroo is scheduled to open. In two days the New South Wales gaming regulator will decide whether it will temporarily take away the keys, and Crown will need to wait until February to find out whether the NSW regulator’s Commission of Inquiry will recommend the keys be permanently removed. The trouble for Crown is that the majority of its management team and board remain in place. And major shareholder, Packer, who has already been accused by counsel assisting the inquiry as being a major part of the problem, still has a controlling stake.

Trump Scottish merch canceled: U.S. President Donald Trump’s trademarks for branded merchandise at his Scottish golf resorts have been cancelled. Trump’s representatives trademarked the name “Trump” and a coat of arms for a number of goods linked to his businesses at Turnberry, Ayrshire and the Menie estate in Aberdeenshire. However, Luxembourg-based financial firm Anthea SARL challenged Trump’s right to exclusive use of the trademarks across Europe and called for them to be revoked, arguing that the Trump-branded marks had not been put to a “genuine use” for a continuous five-year period.

Wyndham’s Tryp debuts in New Zealand: Wyndham Hotels & Resorts’ Tryp by Wyndham brand will debut in New Zealand with the development of two new hotels: the 212-room Tryp by Wyndham Remarkables Park Queenstown and the 76-room Tryp by Wyndham Tory Street Wellington. Under development by Safari Group, Wyndham’s longstanding franchise partner in New Zealand, the design-centric hotels are expected to open in 2023 and 2022, respectively. 

Radisson’s 10th in Nigeria: Radisson Hotel Group will add a 10th hotel in Nigeria, the Radisson Hotel Abuja Gudu, and the third brand in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital and headquarters of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The Scandinavian-inspired 100-room hotel will have four restaurants and bars, pool terraces and a Business Class Lounge. The hotel is under construction and due to open within the next 18 months.
